Offered: To God | Part 1
What does it actually look like to give God your whole life, not just the polished parts, the Sunday parts, or the parts that feel easy to surrender?
In Offered Part 1: Pastor Nichole Crowley launches a new series through Romans 12 and shows what happens when the mercy of God becomes so real to us that our whole life becomes a response of worship.
Romans 12:1 says to present our bodies to God as a living and holy sacrifice because of all He has done for us. Paul does not begin with what God wants from us.
He begins with what God has already done for us. • He forgave us. • He rescued us. • He loved us. • He saved us. • He gave Himself for us. Because of that mercy, our life becomes a thank you note.
The Gospel is not about trying to repay Jesus. We never could. Jesus gave what we could never earn, purchase, or deserve: mercy, forgiveness, rescue, and Himself.
His offering and ours are very different: When Jesus gave His life for me, it meant suffering vs. When I give my life to Jesus, it leads me into freedom His offering took Him to a cross vs. My offering brings me into purpose His surrender meant death vs. My surrender leads to life Jesus does not ask for our life because He wants to take something from us. He asks because He is the only One who knows what our life was meant to become. Romans 12:1-2 gives us 3 clear movements of an offered life:
1. PRESENT YOURSELF TO GOD. Before transformation comes surrender. Romans 12:1 tells us to present ourselves to God, not because we are trying to earn acceptance, but because through Jesus we have already been brought near. The blood of Jesus is what makes us presentable to God. We do not clean ourselves up and then come to Him. We come because Jesus has already made the way. That means we can bring Him all of it: • Our plans. • Our weaknesses. • Our gifts. • Our relationships. • Our habits. • Our ambitions. • Our future. Not just part of us. All of us. Challenge: Give Him access to every part of your life.
2. BECOME A LIVING SACRIFICE. A living sacrifice is not a one-time moment. It is continual surrender. Philippians 3:7-8 shows Paul counting everything else as loss compared with the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. Surrender costs us things like pride, control, comfort, preferences, and the right to call all the shots. But what we receive on the other side is not destruction. It is freedom, purpose, transformation, and life. Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus endured the cross because of the joy set before Him. He saw beyond the pain to what His obedience would accomplish: redemption, forgiveness, restoration, and bringing us back to God. Sacrifice is not only about what we give up. It is about who we decide is worth more. Challenge: Put your “yes” back on the altar today.
3. LET GOD TRANSFORM YOU. Romans 12:2 says not to copy the behavior and customs of this world, but to let God transform us into new people by changing the way we think. Notice the language: let God transform you. This is not surrender followed by trying harder to fix yourself. We present ourselves to God, we surrender, and then we allow Him to do the transforming work. • He changes the way we think. • He changes the way we see. • He changes what is shaping us. And as our minds are renewed, Romans 12:2 says we begin to know God’s will for us, which is good, pleasing, and perfect.
Challenge: Let Him change the way you think and live. An offered life is not about giving God one moment, one decision, or one Sunday. It is saying: • Here I am. • My life is Yours. • My plans are Yours. • My future is Yours. • My relationships are Yours. • My gifts are Yours. • My yes is Yours.
KEY TAKEAWAY: Jesus gave His whole life for us. Because of His mercy, we get to offer our whole life back to Him. We are not losing our life when we surrender it to Jesus. We are placing it in the hands of the One who gave it to us.
CALL TO ACTION: Ask yourself: • What part of my life have I not fully offered to God? • Where do I need to put my yes back on the altar? • What way of thinking does God want to transform?
Then take the next steps:
1. Present yourself to God.
2. Become a living sacrifice.
3. Let God transform you.
